At the point where you directly invest in the general welfare of the people, you are no longer "buying" the people.

The right loves throwing around terms like "pork-barrel spending" to make their own attempts to actually buy the public seem legitimate.

Youur second sentence contradicts your first sentence.

If you think that politicians aren't trying to buy votes when they decide where to spend money, you are delusional. It's done on both sides of the aisle. Every move that is made in Washington is done with the next election in mind. It's the biggest problem with our system because nobody there will ever make the tough decision.

Many of us "fully developed" human beings agree...and understand that what seperates us humans from wild animals.

The republicans want to cut spending and reduce taxes. The only way they buy people is by letting them keep more of their own money.

What makes the democrats think they have the right to take more of my money spend more and put us in more debt?

You are saying its ok to raise taxes and increase spending against racist homophobes?

Is this the democratic argument?

It's sounds like you need to believe in a certain narrative... The rich are evil, and there is a group of racist homophobes who need to be punished so let's raise taxes.

Um... You are the reason Obama got reelected and misinformed people like yourself will bankrupt this country with massive amounts of spending.

Putting political party aside, I am very confused about this past election. Congress had a record low 8% approval rating which speaks for itself. By then we essentially vote for a bigger government that we can't stand. Seems a bit conflicting.

Everybody thinks that their congressmen are good, and that the problem lies in the representatives from other states. It's also a failed system. We all know that the government spends way too much money, but every incumbent candidate runs on a platform built around what he has brought to the state. I can't vote out all congressmen, but I can vote for the guy who will bring the most money back to my state.
