After hearing that a commute from Hamden to Branford via I-91/I-95 might be difficult, particularly with the impending construction projects, I checked Map Quest for an alternate route that avoids highways.
The result was a route that utilized CT 22 and CT 80. It's actually a couple of miles shorter than the highway route but I suspect has traffic lights and the potential for getting stuck behind slow moving vehicles. Map Quest estimated about half an hour for the travel time.
I have no idea whether this route is a realistic alternative or not.
