We have a couple of threads going on this board with people complaining about the people of Connecticut, but this morning I heard a story from a coworker that made me think we should also talk about the acts of kindness people here do.

My coworker went to her usual breakfast place for coffee and a bagel. After getting her order the cashier told her there was no charge and handed her a note from the person that was in front of her. The note read that in honor of the Sandy Hook victims, they were paying for people's breakfast that morning. My coworker cried and decided to do the same for the next person. I thought that this was a very nice thing to do especially since the person really did not get anything out of it except knowing that they brightened another person's day. Jay

Jay, this happened to DW too. She was at Dunkin Donuts on Saturday morning in East Haven, got two cofffees, and was told that the person in front of her had paid. She did not know the person in front of her, but she paid for the person behind her.

Thanks for starting this thread. This has happened to a few people I've talked to, and a few friends are going out of their way to be the person paying first. It's really nice.

Happened to MIL the weekend before Xmas. She was up here and had to go to Target, came out to find a gift card to Starbucks on her windshield with a note to pay it forward in honor of Sandy Hook

This is a nice thing to do although I've heard some horror stories along with it. For instance people who don't know about it being creeped out by it or confused by it and then holding up the line and people leaving bc they don't have time to wait longer. People who try to pay for a whole line of people and the barista trying to get all the orders. I would recommend that if hou do it...try to keep it simple and acknowledge how busy/the vibe of the place.

Every year at xmas my job puts out a list of under priveleged children with their first names, their ages and the gifts they want santa to bring them. Everyone chooses a child and buys them a gift.

While that's nice, it's not really the random act of kindness that I think Jay is referring to.

Still that is nice. We do that in our office too. Our small office buys presents for like 30 teenagers. Jay

Now's your perfect chance! Go get a hot chocolate from Dunkin and pay for the driver behind you.

About two weeks ago, my wife dropped her wallet in a supermarket parking lot. We realized this before we left the store, and started looking around all over for it. By the time we gave up and got home, her wallet was hanging on the knob to our front door. Everything was in there.

I was sure that it would take a long time for us to get the chance to repay the universe for this random act of kindness....but it only took a week for me to find someone's wallet in a parking lot. I picked it up, and drove it to their house and hung it on the handle.

Still some good honest people living in these parts.
