I think you're underestimating some of the affluence around the Danbury area. The Whole Foods is right near the border of Ridgefield and within striking distance of Redding, North Salem, New Fairfield, Newtown, Brookfield, etc. All towns north of $100k HHI. Even pockets of Danbury itself have upper middle income.

It's the same with Milford - Milford edges Danbury very sightly on income, but not much. However, there are pockets of wealth in Milford, and it serves Orange, Woodbridge, Bethany, etc. It's nowhere near Westport/Darien in wealth, but it's a very busy store.

Whole Foods does extensive demographic research before opening a store.

I'm sure Guilford/Madison/Branford will be the next step once they find the right land and approvals.

Bethany residents do their grocery shopping in Naugatuck and Seymour, not Whole Foods in Milford.

I thought many Bethany residents shopped in Hamden as well?

Anyway, Stylo is correct that Bethany is one of the targeted demographics for the WF in Milford.

The two people I know from Bethany shop in Naugatuck and Seymour. Bethany is 30 minutes from WF in Milford. Their ice cream would be melted by the time they arrived home.

Do you have a source for the claim that Bethany is a target customer? That may be your opinion, but I highly doubt the accuracy of it.

You underestimate the draw Whole Foods has. They're definitely within the "zone".

Agreed. I would think the Milford Whole Foods would be a draw for people from Monroe up to Waterbury and out to Madison.

I have to agree that the Danbury Whole Foods architecture leaves a lot to be desired. I go to the Milford location, just down the street from Trader Joe's. If your family has any kind of food intolerances/allergies, or you want healthy/natural ingredients, Whole Foods is the place to go, if Trader Joe's doesn't carry what you are looking for. WF is not a store I would go to looking for a bargain, though.

Agreed. Next time you're in the neighborhood, definitely check out Robert Treat Farm. It's a fantastic little place. They grow 90% of their own produce in farms in Milford and Orange. Generally better prices than Whole Foods too. Great for garden/tree needs too. On those it's a little pricier than Lowes, but better quality too. They also carry Coast of Maine organic gardening products.

Milford can be a PITA to get to from the Waterbury area. Not too far, but a lot of back roads and traffic lights. I'm hoping Trader Joe's would do store in Cheshire, Southbury, Naugatuck or even Waterbury itself.
