Hello,

I am a 22 year old female moving to Connecticut in September to begin working in downtown Hartford. I don't know much about the area and was wondering where to look for apartments. I'm looking for a place with a "young vibe" and a short commute.

The only two places I've seen people write about are Middletown and West Hartford. I was wondering if there are any other places I should be looking. Also, if you have any advice on specific apartment complexes with either studio or 1 bedroom apartments that are decent to live in, please share.

If you need anymore info, let me know. Thanks!

Well I'm not really sure. I don't want to pay too much or too little (because those are usually sketchier areas or just not very nice apartments). So I'd say anywhere from $900 to $1,500.

With that budget, you can easily find a nice apartment in either town. For that amount, you'll probably find something more spacious in Middletown, but it's a further drive into Hartford. You can also find a nice apartment in W. Hartford even on the lower end of that budget, and it's right next door to capitol city. But keep in mind that most apartments in WH are older, and most of them will lack modern comforts. A typical apartment in WH will offer customary amenities like private parking and elevators, and on-site washer-dryers, but nothing like the more modern things you see that most people expect these days. Both have awesome downtown areas, the only difference being Middletown isn't as walkable once you're further away from Main Street. In WH, the majority of town is and there's other areas to hang out beyond downtown.

You could also look in the West End of Hartford which is different than West Hartford. The West End is a little more urban in character while West Hartford is more suburban. Middletown is nice too but like Mike noted it is further from Hartford. A lot of young people live in MAnchester as well. There are a lot of apartment complexes there (West Hartford has few). It is more suburban in character and its downtown has less restaurants and entertainment than West Hartford has. Still it is a nice town for singles. Jay
