With the news about NE Patriots Tight End Aaron Hernandez being a murderer and getting into 'gang's back in high school (he grew up in Bristol), i find that kind of weird. I drove through Bristol a couple times and it seemed like a safe place to me.

Bristol is fine. There's a housing project on Davis Drive and a handful of lower-income areas, but overall it's perfectly safe.

I would call it a "blue-collar" town. I have many friends from Bristol who are scared to come into my neighborhood (New Britain), Bristol isn't that bad. There are some run down places, but what place doesn't have that.

I agree. It's very safe for the most part. Just avoid those few areas. There are some VERY nice areas in Bristol, but for the most part it's pretty bland. Safe, but bland. It does have some nice parks.

This was just discussed on NPR. It's reporters looking for a narrative. Bristol is a blue-collar town, that, is frankly, unremarkable. Nothing bad. Nothing to get terribly excited about. I know a few people who grew up there and they grew up to be fine people.

It's not Compton like some media are trying to portray it.

Can I change the convo a little and ask about East Hartford?

"gangs" in Bristol is not what most people think of when they think of gangs. These are corner boys, not gangs. Like the previous poster said- it's reporters trying to amp up a lame story.

TMZ has obtained a photo of Aaron Hernandez throwing up gang signs often associated with the Bristol Bloods street gang in Connecticut while dressed head-to-toe in red clothing. The photo was taken approximately 6 years ago, when Aaron was 17-years-old … and a senior at Bristol Central High.
Aaron was long-rumored to be a member of the gang … and now, with this photo — combined with the “blood” tattoo spotted on his hand during his arraignment — the doubt has seemingly been erased.
