just within the last week i've seen a bunch of cars with plates that look to have a new numbering format. something like this..

aAAXXa where 'a' represents a single digit usually 5 or 7 and 'XX' represents 2 more letters. i've seen RP where it spells out AARP but i've also seen KL and a few others. just curious if these plates have a special meaning or if the new format is for allowing an increase in drivers (like 860 allowed for more phone numbers).

And for non vanity plates, the new format will be 2 numbers, followed by 2 letters, followed by 2 numbers. Maybe that's what you've started to see? I haven't noticed any yet

i found this on wiki. not a lot of info but if you look at the graph under '1956 to present', the last entry for 2013 shows the 6 char format i described. the description says 'new license plate format'. hmmm. haven't heard about this and they've already started implementing it.

i'm glad they replaced the old white on dark blue (too similar to Michigan) but i kinda like the dark blue on a light blue to white gradient. looks snazzier. Mass at one time were distributing both a green on white as well as a red, blue on white. never understood why they didn't choose one over the other but maybe we can come up with an optional 2nd color scheme. not sure what those colors would be though.

Mass phased out the green on white a long time ago. Some people still have them but it is rare, the red ,white and blue is standard issue now.

I wish we had more options like Texas does. You can get different teams, colors, logos, etc. All we have is a small handful of save your pets, feed the children, veteran, save the sound, etc. Nothing fun or cool that is worth getting a vanity for.
