I remember when I was a little kid living in Rocky Hill, there was a section of Franklin Avenue in the south end of Hartford designated as Little Italy. Even the median on the road was painted in the colors of the Italian flag. There were many authentic restaurants and Italian grocery stores such as Casa Mia, D&D and Ravioli Kitchen, Muzzigatos, etc.

Since I rarely ever go to Hartford, does anyone know if Little Italy still exists to any degree at all?

some of the places are still there, but others are not. I know Modern Pastry is still there - my aunt got her wedding cake there back in the late 50s, my mom did almost 50 years ago, and I got mine there 14 years ago.

Mozzicatos and Modern are still there. D&D. I think Casa Mia closed Hartford after having two locations for a little while. I think that's who it was. The paint is from the Italian Fest.

Very very few spots left of Little Italy in Hartford. Some bakeries and some old social clubs left, but nothing like it used to be. We own a couple rental units around the Franklin Ave area. Let's just say our tenants used to have names like Pat "the rat" and Jimmy "the barber", our most current tenant NOW is Sharika. The older (generation) Italians moved to Wethersfield when they got some money.

The Tunxis Hill section of Fairfield use to have a very high concentration of Hungarians. It was the highest concentration of Hungarians outside of Hungary. These Hungarians came from a section of Bridgeport's West End that was nicknamed "Hunktown". The families left Hunktown to move to what was then "the country" by buying small plots of land that the West End Bank bought and subdivided from farmland. You have several streets in the area (Baros, Hunyadi, Andrassy, etc.) that are named after streets in Budapest. St. Emery's Church was built to serve Hungarians in the area and up until not that long ago, masses there were celebrated in Hungarian, not English. There use to be a couple of grocery stores/markets that sold Hungarian food and a couple of small restaurant/bars that served Hungarian foods. They are pretty much gone now. Jay

Not sure it's big enough to be called "Little" Asia or anything like that, but there is a plaza in West Hartford that has A Dong Asian Grocery (a large Chinese, Vietnamese grocery store), Pho Boston (Vietnamese), an Asian hair salon, the excellent new Shu Restaurant (authentic spicy Chinese), an Asian travel agency and a few other Asian places.
