We'll be living in the Hamden/Cheshire area, but a once-a-week drive for meat is fine. We do that now in Cincinnati. I'm not looking for the fanciest place, just a good, reliable meat market. Who has a recommendation?

What about bakeries or your favorite bread place? I'm all ears - or stomach!

I'm not sure about butchers, but there are some amazing Italian bakeries on the South End of Hartford. The neighborhood isn't as Italian as it was historically, but everyone still goes there for cookies in the winter and Italian Ice in the summer. There's a few on Franklin Ave., but the one I remember off the top of my head is called Mozzicato's. The First and Last Tavern in Hartford also has an excellent bread bakery attached, the First and Last Bakery.

In Bristol,CT (about 20mins. from Cheshire) South Side Market is a great butcher shop. Also in Bristol you will find Supernatural Market & Harvest Bakery where you will find great breads,cakes, and cookies.
