We are looking to relocate to Connecticut. We would like a commute time to NYC of 1 hour or less. We are looking for a 4 bedroom home in a good school district. Any ideas!!!!

You are probally looking for lower Fairfield county, one of the most expensive housing markets in the country. To stay in the 1 hr of the city, look in North Stamford, Greenwich and Darien. It will cost a small fortune in those towns. The median home sale this year in Greenwich is a little over $2 million, a little under $1 mil in Darien and North Stamford. If you expand your range to about 75-80 minutes, check out Wilton and Ridgefield which are more affordable with very good school systems.

Most of the areas down that way would be nice to live in as long as your not in New Haven, Bridgeport or the big citys like that. On the other side of that if you are looking for affordable houseing you are not going to find that within an hour of the city. A 4 bedroom house in that area is going to cost you about $400,000 or so. Go a little farther away and the cost goes down and the train is always a good way to get to the city.

Southern Westchester is even more expensive and has the highest property taxes in the country. You could check out Danbury, where you can get a good sized 4 bed (2200 square feet) for around $470,000 with taxes being about $4200 a year. However in Ridgefield, where the schools have a little better repution though both school system are pretty good, would be about $599k with $7000 a year in property taxes.

You could also consider southern Dutchess County (Pawling, Wingdale, or Dover Plains) or Putnam County (Patterson, Putnam Lake, or Brewster) and take Metro North - Harlem line into the City.

I grew up in Wingdale (Town of Dover) with the train being on my family's farm - sort of a neat thing as a child.

You may want to look into Ridgfield CT, nice little story book town. Prices have dropped a bit so you may be able to find something affordable. You can drive to NY in about an hour or take the MetroNorth from Katonah just over an hour.
