I recently got a job offer from IBM in Southbury and I'm looking for places to rent. I could not find many options in Southbury so I started looking at nearby locations like Waterbury, Danbury and Oxford.
The problem that I'm facing is that I'm still learning how to drive and could not find public transportation in Southbury. My question is:
If I stay in Waterbury, Danbury or Oxford, is there any mode of commute that I can use to travel to the IBM office in Southbury. Any info would be helpful!
Car is required. Maybe carpool with someone to start?
Rentals are more common in Waterbury, but careful where you rent - there are some shady areas. Danbury is a bit far but doable. You may want to look at Naugatuck, Seymour, Shelton, Derby, Ansonia too for affordable rentals.

Good suggestions - but I would say that Danbury is the same distance to Southbury from Waterbury - 16 miles vs about 12, depending on where points A and B are in each town.
The op should cross Oxford off their list, as it's a town of mostly single family homes.
Naugatuck has the advantage that you can get to Southbury pretty quickly only using back roads. For a new driver, avoiding the highways can feel much safer. There are also some okay apartment complexes. Nothing amazing / high end but not expensive either.
Do you not drive at all, as in you don't have a license and were never behind the wheel; or are you licensed and just not so comfortable driving? If the latter, then I wouldn't worry about it -- you'll be fine in no time. I moved to CT when I was 24, and I didn't drive at all, though I did have license which I obtained when I was 17 through my HS drivers ed program. I came from Brooklyn where no car was required -- just subways or buses; and I also made it through college without needing one either. Here in CT though, you absolutely need to have a car & know how to drive. Dont worry though -- Practice whenever you can and you'll be independent and getting around on your own before you know it! Maybe even consider enrolling in driving lessons if you need a refresher course. Good luck.
