Things have not changed that much in one year. Again it would depend on the criteria used. Jay

How is the criteria used different?

I have no idea. Like I said, I do not know where the list that Lalalally posted came from or what it really is for. Jay

I believe the chart Lalally posted came from an article/online piece from The Atlantic's Citylab site.

Default salary comparison between Hartford, CT and Raleigh, NC

if $100k in Hartford(CT), then how much would be the equivalent salary in Raleigh(NC)?
( the same token, but ...if $100k in Raleigh(NC), then how much would be the equivalent salary in Hartford(CT)?)

Per CNN (not sure if I'm allowed to post the link, so I won't), if you make $50k in Raleigh, you'd need to make almost $16k more in Hartford. Here's the breakdown that the cnn money calculator spits out:

Comparable salary in
Hartford, CT
$65,843
Price difference in Hartford, CT
Groceries22%more
Housing65%more
Utilities13%more
Transportation18%more
Health Care18%more

The CNN calculator that everyone uses is not the best source. I like to use the BLS data to derive salary comparisons by metropolitan area AND based on your profession:

May 2014 Metropolitan and Nonmetropolitan Area Occupational Employment and Wage Estimates

With that said, for me, an accountant, my pay would be only 8% lower in Raleigh than Hartford metro. Damn....that's actually pretty good for Raleigh as an accountant!

It shows that the mean pay for accountants in Hartford metro is $73,630, but is $67,450 in Raleigh. But the COL in Raleigh is about 7% lower. So, really, I'd be in the same boat either way.

I'm dizzy just reading this!

Do you ALWAYS have to cherry pick and only post the good things about CT, and the negatives about any other place? And enough about this "charm" garbage….whatever that is supposed to mean.

You make it sound like CT is this wonderful utopia, which it is NOT according to most people. Sure….its a lot better here than in Kansas (and many other states---)I'll give you that, but to imply that its better than just about anywhere else is disingenious and misleading.

As to climate comparison, I bet if we took a poll that 60 to 70% of people would think Raleigh has an OVERALL year round better climate than Hartford.
its called the INNER BELT, and the homes are stunning and have charm out the butt!!!

Sorry but Hartford looks like a big garbage dump compared to ANY place in NC, and I'm sorry if you people can't understand and handle the truth.

I pick Durham right next door, but Raleigh/Durham/Chapel Hill no comparison. That is like comparing gold to aluminum. Better food, more to do, college's are good, school's are better, sport's, better job market, better housing market, better weather, better taxes, and so so so so much more in Raleigh. Where I want to move when I am a nurse. Heard it's a great area for medical/research.

Also the homes and rents blow Hartford out of the water. There is this amazing condo or apartment when looking down their that has everything only cost $1200. Up here forget about it ha.

The Goverment is ran ten times better than CT.

Take this with a grain of salt most job's down south drop in pay compared here. However, in Raleigh heard pay decrease is not that bad.

From what I read a lot of people don't enjoy the booming growth of Raleigh area, the increased traffic, and increased taxes. However, compared to CT it's not that bad ha.
