There's a part of Milford where you have exits every few blocks...

Coming from Stratford is there really a reason to have exits at Route 1 in Devon, Schoolhouse Road, Plains Road and High Street before the Milford Connector?

Kind of absurd. The High Street Exit (which is actually mine) is almost never used...

You could definitely close High Street with minimal effect

So today I came down 95 from Rt. 8 to Post Rd in Darien. I took note of the overpasses and the distances to the buildings along the highway. IMHO, it's going to be one heck of a project to add a lane to 95. The cost of the sound barriers alone will be in the tens of millions.

I think that there are definitely opportunities to tweak the schedule and increase ridership. My wife and son wanted to take the Windsor train into Hartford but it arrives too late in the morning and leaves too early in the afternoon. There are virtually no times that work between 7 and 9 am or 4:00 to 5:30 pm.

Fairly good article, but the author is way off on this part and should have done more research

"Meriden, while acting without malicious intent, has built a large park next to its train station instead of restoring the dense housing and commercial area that once occupied that land."

That area is a flood zone and is not appropriate for housing or anything else. There was commercial property there that was flooded and destroyed in the late 80's. Also, across the street from this park is "the Mills" housing project which is going to be torn down. Most likely modern housing with market rate rents will be replacing "The Mills" although I do not know what Meriden's plans are ultimately.

If Meriden plays their cards right they can have huge development in that area once the trains start running.

Hi,

Regarding schedule my GUESS is the problem stems from the possibility that all equipment and the crew point of origin will be NH.

Storing Equipment safely in Hartford & Springfield so they are not vandalized, setting up overnight maintenance facilities and the costs of manpower to service these facilities / equipment is likely the reason.

It looks like no equipment will lay overnight in Springfield or Hartford for these reasons.

The schedule is therefore dictated by the fact that all Crews & Equipment Originate at NH.

The Crew & Equipment runs will be look to be 4400-4401-4454-4455 for one crew & equipment set. The second Crew & Equipment set will operate 4452-4453-4406-4407.

Guessing again look for delays (I hope not) of 4401 as the inbound Crew & Equipment from 4400 will only have a 20" turn. This may sound like a lot of time but it really is a very tight "turn" and delay on 4400 will impact 4401.

The same scenarios unfold later in the day and it appears all Crew & Equipment end up in NH.

Facilities to support this line at Hartford & Springfield will never happen if the ridership doesn't justify the expenditure to build them.

This is an opinion piece that is a bit short on facts or information to back up claims or statements. That said the author has expressed many of the concerns with the train schedule people have noted on this forum. Jay

First look at new and improved Hartford Line the train cars are from Boston MBTA coaches they are getting refurbished from outside to inside. The trains are getting makeover in Rhode Island. Next year 19 new Metro North M8 traincars are arriving unsure if they will be on Hartford Line or Shoreline East pending the state budget. Hartford line service expect to start in May 2018.
