I've done some research around and it sounds like New Haven would be more attractive for a recent grad.

A little bit about myself: I'm a 22 year old male, went to school in NYC and grew up in KC where I currently am living/working. I might relocate out to an office in Wallingford and could use some advice. I would like to be as close to the nightlife as possible, around a 20 minute commute to work, have parking, and would like to spend around $1000 (hopefully less).

I've heard downtown New Haven around Yale might be nice but any specific streets or locations? Or any other place worth looking at?

Could just stick in Wally about 20 minutes from Hartford/Middletown/New Haven. Have decent bar's, restaurant's, and so forth in Wally. Easier places to park and rent will be cheaper than New Haven.

This. Rents are on the cheap side here, and there's a fair amount of things to do in the center of town, and very many places to eat.

Also: Avoid Meriden.

Agree - stick with Wallingford and you have a short drive to New Haven and to Middletown.

I am not sure why people are talking about being near Middletown and Hartford. The OP wants to be near nightlife so New Haven would be best for them. No need to head north.

As the others noted, Wallingford itself is a good start. It is a nice small town with some decent restaurants and bars but coming from New York, it might be too small for you.

New Haven would be a good option. Your budget is a bit tight even for New Haven though. Still the best neighborhoods would be East Rock, Downtown, Wooster Square, Westville, Annex and the East Shore. East Rock would likely give you the best commute since it is right off I-91 in the north part of the city. Not sure what you would get for $1,000 a month though. You might want to look into sharing a place to save money. Good luck, Jay

I wouldn't exactly call Wallingford - population @ 45,000 - a small town. Compared to NYC it is, but not for Connecticut.

Not sure what you find in Middletown night life is decent. There is a Country Line Dancing bar not to far in Southington, a Heavy Metal Bar in Wallingford, and Club Lucent in Wallingford. There is clubs in Hartford only one can think if is Room 960. You want to avoid the one's in Waterbury.

You have bowling, movie theater, a concert venue, good restaurants, trampoline park, big box store's, and so forth in Wallingford.

Lots of gyms to.

I am not what apartments could find know a lot of Condo's in Wallingford.

Very true. I debated how to characterize the town but since the OP is coming from New York City I figured "Small town" was a decent reference. Jay

Why talk about Hartford and Middletown? The OP only mentions New Haven which would have more than enough options for him. Jay
