Happy Hump Day everyone! Do any of you have thoughts on Norwalk Hospital child birthing center? Any ob or midwife recommendations? Have any of you given birth at Norwalk hospital? Single rooms? How was the staff and the experience?

Thanks in advance...

Experience with Danbury OB, which is part of Western CT Health Network. Western CT Health Network is affiliated with Norwalk Hospital. It was single rooms some with suites make it easy for family to stay over. Add in some rooms equipped for water birth. Add in a 2 room OR attached to the unit. Good crew of nurses/Doctors/Doulas so forth.

I gave birth in April at Norwalk hospital and I can't say enough wonderful things about the staff and the maternity ward. We had a private room and stayed for 3 or 4 days after my surgery. Most of the nursing staff was incredible and felt like old friends by the time we left. I only had one night nurse that I didn't care for but the rest were fantastic. They were so helpful that we came back a week later to bring thank you gifts to the staff. I learned much about breast feeding, bathing my daughter, my after care, etc. The food wasn't great, but that's to be expected.

Oh and my ob was wonderful - Dr. Amanda Meulenberg of the Avery Center. They have offices in Westport, Norwalk and Fairfield. They encourage you to meet with every doctor since you don't know who will be on staff when you go into labor.

if you need a local pediatrician, Dr. Freliech of Doctors Pediatric in Wilton is who we see. She is the best decision we've made and is incredibly warm and helpful.

Congrats and good luck! Let me know if you have any other questions.

Thanks for taking time out of your busy schedules to reply to my post.

Another question. If I want to give birth at Norwalk hospital, do I call there to make my first prenatal appointment? Can I have my prenatal appts at the birthing center but deliver at Norwalk hospital?

I had a fabulous experience at Danbury Hospital and have heard good things about Norwalk as well. I know people who have traveled over an hour to deliver there.

This is great info as my OB is also at Avery and delivers at Norwalk. I was a bit concerned as being in Manhattan, we were hoping to have baby at NY Presbyterian but now have to be in CT. Glad to read this!

Thank you Master, that is great to know. My primary care said my Avery OB delivered his high-risk twins and Norwalk hospital was great too. Your experience makes me feel better!
