My wife and I live in Trumbull, and we just found out were pregnant. Anyone have a recommendation of the better hospital between St. Vincent's and Bridgeport Hospital? Any suggestions would be very helpful!

Congratulations! I can't help with your specific question, but thought i'd point out that for "uncomplicated" births, many people seem to prefer Griffin(in Derby).

With which hospital is your wife's OB affiliated ? That's pretty much where she will go barring complications.

I know a couple of people who have used St. Vincent's and were very happy with their experience. That said, Bridgeport Hospital has a highly rated NICU if needed.

Congrats! I can't compare the two places, having only used one. However, I was extremely pleased with St. Vincent's. For first time parents like I was, the fact that you get to keep your child in the room with you all the time and get lots of advice on basic baby care (swaddling, burping, diapers, etc) from nurses as you go was really helpful. They are very proud of their "baby friendly" designation and have lots of support for breastfeeding, childcare classes you can go to, etc. Generally a nice atmosphere and great nurses.

St. Vincent's now has an in-hospital birthing center run by one of the midwives who delivered my first baby. If you're inclined toward the "natural birth" scene, it may be a good choice.

And congratulations!

Our OB told us we could go with either one (her practice has connections with both hospitals). She also said that for any severe complications after the birth, the baby would be transferred to Bridgeport anyway, since they were better equipped for such emergencies at their Neonatal ICU and Women's Care Center (WCC). That made us choose Bridgeport for both our children and we had no complaints whatsoever.

St, V's is easier to get to from Trumbull, is a bit safer and parking is a bit easier. If no complications are expected I would choose St. Vincent's over Bpt hospital.

I am partial to St. Vincent's because my nephew's wife is a maternity nurse there and she's wonderful.

I'm curious, how do they all compare to Yale?

I think we're fortunate to have very good hospitals in the area.

I've had personal experience with St. V's and was very impressed. I felt very well taken care of. My mother had a procedure done at Bridgeport Hospital last year and had to stay a couple of days. She also said very good things.

I have no personal experience with Yale NH, but, I know you have some world-class doctors and nurses there.

I really don't think you can go wrong in this area of Connecticut (or Hartford for that matter) when it comes to hospital care.
