I hate one and know nothing about the other. I'll consider this Carter bloke but hope that we'll get a Libertarian candidate again.

Carter.

Blumenthal feels like he's been around FOREVER, mainly because of being attorney General and his prior political career. Honestly it's really time for a change!

Blumenthal is probably the most pro "little guy" member of the Senate. He's a media Who-Ore, however, he's done a lot for the "little guy". He's also a dependable vote on social justice. I know nothing about his opponent.

Time for Blumenthal to retire and run a charity.

Dan Carter is basically being fed to Blumenthal like a boxing jobber until the state GOP finds someone to really put up against Murphey. I doubt they will find someone agreeable with both the state's GOP rank and file and the RNC's preferred platform.

I don't understand what you mean by that. The party couldn't have planned for this? They knew Blumenthal was ready for re-election just like they know that Murphy's term is up in two years.

There was a reason there was not a clamor to run for Senate for this cycle. The state party might help out a little, but really in their calculus it'd be throwing good money after bad. Not only does the GOP struggle nationally, and specifically in the Northeast, during Presidential contests but Trump at the top is leaving many state parties to hold off using a ton of resources this cycle. Specifically in this race Blumenthal is a political juggernaut, to boot with a one of the healthier war chests in the Senate and media savvy that makes him all but a shoe in.

Murphy is seen as more vulnerable and is up for re-election for midterms which the GOP sees now as their stomping grounds. I'd expect them to throw a lot of resources at that race and somewhat sit this one out.

I hope for the sake of good governance Dan Carter really holds Blumenthals feet to the fire, and has a good campaign, but let's be serious here winning would be an insane long shot upset.

Lets face it, the Republican Party is a mess. The Presidential race clearly shows it on a national level while here in Connecticut, it was shown during the last Governor election. The party failed to nominate an electable candidate in Tom Foley. The fact that Foley ran and lost in the previous election and that the party did not accept that his past business dealings effectively sent him to the slaughter shows how out of touch the party is today in general. Had they nominated a more moderate, less connected candidate, they might have had a shot (and a good one at that). But they did not do that and they have paid the price over and over. Like him or not, Senator Blumenthal is pretty much a shoo in for reelection. JMHO, Jay
