Is there much difference between these towns outside of one being closer to the Sound?

price, I would assume. Mystic/Stonington isn't cheap (median home price $375,000. Ledyard is more affordable, but I am guessing it's still pricier than Putnam. Putnam is $164,000 median, Ledyard is $195,000, Pomfret is

Schools are pretty good in both Mystic and Ledyard. Below average in Putnam, I believe.

That's cool $190K is cheap for CT.

Been researching other States to live in, but for the S.O. & I CT still seems the best option.

As the S.O. finishes nursing school this year and I hopefully in 2019 looking at areas to live/work in CT.

Mystic area we feel offers 3 hospitals and a few nursing homes. Know that up near Putnam there is 2 to 3 hospitals, but unsure about nursing homes.

Looking at Litchfield, Tolland, Middlesex, Windham, and New London Counties to live/work.

Love the New London County area and do enjoy Pomfret a bit remote, but that's okay ha!

Litchfield is nice some areas seem a bit top expensive and winter weather is usually the worst in the NW areas of the State.

I'd think there would be more options for things like restaurants, shopping, etc in the Mystic area. Not sure how far it is from Putnam up to Worcester or Providence for that sort of thing.

Where are you coming from? Pomfret/Putnam and Ledyard/Groton(Mystic) are very different. Pomfret is much more rural and Putnam is an old mill town with a big antiquing center; public schools aren't that great. That area is known as "the quiet corner" for a reason. Ledyard/Groton is the biggest tourist destination in the state with Mystic & casinos and also a big navy/defense contracting presence. Most of Ledyard is secluded from the tourism though and Gales Ferry has nice neighborhoods and good schools. Also SE CT (and South County RI) generally has the most mild winter weather in all of New England.

For hospitals, there is Lawrence & Memorial (New London) and Bacchus (Norwich) in SE CT. L&M is becoming affiliated with Yale. Apple Rehab is a top notch rehab facility as well.

I'd choose the location that fits your interest. If you want alot of land, possibly horses or a farm, go to Pomfret/Putnam but expect peace & quiet. If you want it a little busier (but still quiet in relation to the rest of the state), like being near water and tourist amenities (golf, boating, restaurants, casinos) then I'd go Ledyard. I think SE CT is very versatile when it comes to pursuing your interests and has a ton of amenities in relation to its population based on the tourism factor. Living in Waterford or parts of Norwich (Norwichtown) might be a good option too but Ledyard & Groton are both great as well.

NE CT - Rural quiet closer to places like Boston Providence and Worcester.
SE CT - Less rural quiet compared to SW and central CT but many more tourists. Most needs covered locally in the small cities.

It really depends on what your looking for. Honestly employment with a close commute tends to be better in SE CT but if you drive a little NE CT has lot's of options too. Real estate will tend to be more reasonable in the NE.

You would be able to commute to Worcester area from Putnam area. About 30 minutes drive. Worcester has probably more healthcare jobs than SE corner. Weather though is worse. It may be snowing in Putnam but only raining in Groton.

I-95 in SE gets pretty congested too often.
