The high amount for the personal property might be the caveat- $200k is very high- mine is around 30K for personal property- unless you have jazzy art work, antiques, jewelery or other pricey personal items- you may be over insured.

That seems terribly high. I last owned a home here in 2005 and I was paying under $500 a year-granted, the house was of less value than yours. I have State Farm for everything, maybe you could give them a buzz.

I do think CT is over priced on a lot of things, but I don't think homeowners insurance is one of them-I always paid less than anyone I knew in other states.

I think to buy all new furniture for a house would be $30,000.00 alone. You would have to replace absolutely everything in your home, clothes, dishes, bedding, computers, TV's etc. We are a family of 5. Maybe I'll drop it down to $150,000.00, and hope the teenagers move out soon. lol

I did call State Farm a while ago, they wanted even more than what we currently pay.

Okay, I feel really dumb. We actually pay $1126.00 annually. I was looking online at our rates, and we have the same insurance company for both cars and homeowners, with the same info on the one website, side by side. Our car insurance premiums are renewed every six months, and I mistakenly assumed the homeowners insurance was, too. But I just called the company to ask why our rates were so high, and they explained the rate was annually renewed. *dumb blonde moment* I did make some changes though, and saved $100.00+ annually.

andthentherewere3: I'm paying about $700 a year for HOI on a home worth about 300K right now. I have State Farm. I did get a good discount by wrapping a lot of insurance policies together in a bundle.

Your's doesn't sound way off, but does sound a little expensive to me.

Lets try and assimilate the appropriate information, before passing judgment- especially for those living out of state.

Connecticut members could easily post in other state forums and pass judgment about the shortcomings of those states., without having the correct information, as in this case.
I wasn't passing judgment. Its only my opinion.

I assume. I am just use to 5 year licenses being $20 and 10 year being $35. So of course $106 or even $80 for four years seems a little crazy to me. I'm sure it has a lot to do with the cost of living and the fact that I'm sure the salaries are much higher there. Therefore it doesn't hurt as much.

If you think Ct. is bad , don't ever move to Mass.. States from Ohio to Maine are determined to insure our dependancy on government by turning the middle class into the poor, all in the name of fairness and safety.
