Hello,
My husband is accepting a job in Norwalk. We will be looking to buy a home and need some advice about what neighborhoods might be best for us. From my research it looks like Bridgeport or Stratford might be the most affordable for us. However I know that Bridgeport has many neighborhoods but I'm not sure what are the better ones.
Our family consists of myself, husband and nearly four year old son and two dogs. I'm a stay at home mom so it would be great to be in a neighborhood where there are other young families to get to know. A park within walking distance is also a plus.
Any suggestions would be much appreciated.
Thanks!
I think you may want to look in Trumbull. If it were me, I would prefer that to Stratford or Bridgeport - but you don't have the beach. You can still take your dogs to Lake Mohegan in Fairfield and to the beach there in the winter.
That budget is pretty tight even for Stratford or Bridgeport. I too would recommend Stratford over Bridgeport. Be a little careful in Stratford and try to stay away from the Bridgeport border south of Barnum Avenue (Route 1). In Bridgeport, Black Rock (west of Ellsworth Street), the North End (north of North Avenue and west of Main Street) and the Treeland areas are best. You might want to consider a condo to get into a nicer area. Good luck, Jay
You'll have trouble even finding a decent condo for that price. 200k is basically non existent in most safe areas of FFC. If that's your budget and you aren't in insane debt, I'd strongly reconsider this job. You're moving to one of the most expensive real estate markets in the country.
Shelton and Stratford. Shelton schools are better. I live in Trumbull so I know the area pretty well.
In Shelton you will be up near Derby but it is a good safe area. Before my brother got married he rented a house in this area. It is a solid middle class area.
In Stratford it would be nice if you could get into the Paradise Green area. I go through this area when I go to BJ's and it is a nice family friendly area. There are sidewalks and you see the kids and parents walking in this area. It is closer to Milford which is the better side of town.
Trumbull has a better school system than Stratford and Shelton. Once in a while there are some small homes and townhouses in the southern section of Trumbull you might be able to get. There are none right now and they usually need lots of work.
I agree with Trumbull, Stratford, Shelton, western side of Bridgeport. Those are the low end options for Fairfield County. You do what you gotta do.
Might want to take a peek in Danbury as well which will have easier access (train included) to job if it's in the Merritt 7 complex.
