I am in meriden, and lost most of my sight while living here.

My husband works is Goshen or Canaan and right now the commute is 1.5 hrs. No kids, we want 2 rent, no more than 800, 1bdrm

The problem is I don't drive and I haven't coped with my blindness enough to take a bus. I need shops, Drs, pharmacy all in walking distance from my house, I would like to be no farther then 1.5 miles from my place to Drs, stores, etc. From reading some posts torrington is the closest city to Goshen. The only thing I know about that part of the state is there's a lot of nothing. Just woods, trees, farms... I don't even have a clue of what any of the main roads are.

I just need a little direction of where to start looking. Any help would be great. I'm from the south of the state any streets to avoid or places to go or not would be extremely helpful.

You should be able to find a place in downtown Torrington without a problem. Just don't go too far south on South Main St.

You should be able to find something near shopping and services in Torrington. Goshen and Canaan do not have what you are looking for. These are small rural towns with few services and stores. You might consider looking on the city's west side off Litchfield Street near the hospital and Torrington Commons shopping center where there is a Super Stop & Shop plus a number of other stores. You also might consider looking to see where doctors you go to are located in Torrington and see what stores and services are near them. Good luck, Jay

Like Jay said, Torrington should be an easy place to find a house in for you. Definitely do not look at Canaan, as you will have to drive a half hour to Torrington for anything that you need. Goshen fifteen minutes to Torrington, but there's no bus transportation in this area.

There’s some local bus service in torrington, if you’re age enough to use the senior bus and candystripper from Main up to the hospital. There’s transit van services too. If you can find dr referrals there, they should be able to give you the transport info. A few local cabs without needing uber/lyft. It’s a friendly area, like the torrington area group on Facebook and you’ll get more tips and some leads on rentals.
