While the incidence of all other juvenile crime has fallen, car theft is up 37%, some say because juveniles know that there is no real punishment for it under current laws. This bill would allow automatic transfer of automobile theft to adult court IF THE OFFENDER ALREADY HAS TWO FELONY CONVICTIONS.

Only if they already have two felony convictions?

Well, it's a start. This being a deep-blue state, our legislatures will always side with the perpetrators of crime over the victims, claiming their poor upbringing rendered them incapable of knowing what they did, and anyone who thinks otherwise is a racist. That being said, it's nice to see these juvenile thugs will be put on some notice. It's just a shame they're not playing with 5 fouls like the rest of us, but again, this is Connecticut.

Does anyone want to know the percentage of juvenile suspects that the police have probable cause to arrest who end up receiving felony convictions in the state of CT?

4%.

This bill is an absolute joke.

It’s almost impossible to compare because each state has different laws when it comes to juvenile prosecution. But the fact that CT’s prosecution of juveniles is so low, and that democratic politicians want to RAISE the age, is baffling to me. It really should concern anyone who works hard for what they have.

The felonies shouldn't count if knuckle heads leave their cars running or with the key fobs inside. These teen perps are not sophisticated thieves with decrypting devices.

Doesn't make any sense to send teen perps to prison at 100$ a day (36.5k per year) where they most likely will learn to be better thieves.

Maybe have them pay a mandatory fine like $1,000 or $2,000 and have them attend some type of mandatory evaluation where a social worker can assess their situation and see if anything like job training or education can help. If not just throw them to the wolves I guess.

What would really be funny is take the fine money in the above example and use it to create a campaign to educate knuckle heads to not leave their cars running or with key fobs inside.

I was waiting for the first person to come here and victim blame. The person who’s car is stolen is a “knucklehead” when the criminals, who use these stolen cars to commit additional crimes to conceal their identity, are just “teen perps”. This mentality is equally frustrating as it is scary.

30 days of cell time with Bubba would probably be an appropriate deterrent. We don't need to render them for lamp oil.

I couldn't agree more. Whenever a bad act is committed. liberals twist themselves into pretzels to blame everybody but the person who actually did it.
