This may or may not be of much use or interest to you, but in any case here is the ranking of the economies of each municipality in the state of Connecticut. Its ranked from largest to smallest, and it was elaborated by yours truly.

Color Code: Blue = Fairfield County, Violet = Hartford County, Green = New Haven County, Orange = New London County, Grey = Windham County, Dark Red = Litchfield County, Light Blue = Tolland County, Red = Middlesex County

Year of Original Data: 2009

Source of Original Data: Town Profiles – Economic Data in Connecticut - CERC

Personal Observation: Much to my surprise, Stamford appears to be Connecticut's largest economy. Even more surprising is that Greenwich's economy is 82% of Stamford. Anyone that has visited these two municipalities would understand the shock. These two neighbors infrastructure appear to be the complete opposite of each other, despite both being quite wealthy for their category (one is a city and the other a town). Despite Bridgeport being home to more people than any other municipality in Connecticut, its economy ranks 4th statewide. Also notice how the top 5 economies in the state are all in Fairfield County. I was additionally shocked by Norwalk not just due to ranking 3rd statewide, but also ranking much higher than New Haven, which I previously thought had a bigger economy. Please note that this ranking is solely based on the size of each economy, it doesn't alludes to the overall wealth of each municipality. A perfect case-in-point would be Hartford and New Canaan, the former is much less affluent than the latter on a per capita basis, however the former has a bigger economy than the latter.

Nothing too shocking, really. But, interesting, nonetheless. It's probably the hedge funds that cause Greenwich to be way up at #2. I worked in the hedge funds industry, and Greenwich holds 10% of the world's hedge fund capital, which is about $120 billion (as of 2008).

Antonio,
Thanks for the info -- I'm trying to understand further. I looked at a PDF for one town and could not find any mention of GDP. Could you maybe give some more info on how you arrived at a number for each town?

Thank you-

Yeah I'm shocked that Bridgeport ranks higher than Hartford. What does this number express?

Somewhat surprising that Montville and Ledyard aren't much higher on the list.

They're only required to disclose slot revenue for purposes of paying taxes on the compact with the state. All other revenue is proprietary information.

I'm not sure how exactly it works with them. Do they charge the normal 6% sales and restaurant taxes for everything or no?

I've never fully understood how it actually works. It's complicated. Here's one article that relates somewhat to the issue of "sales tax" at the casinos:Blumenthal speaks out on Foxwoods tax - Norwich, CT - Norwich Bulletin
