Is this commute going to be long-term? Sounds like a nightmare. Driving to Fairfield in the morning will likely be an hour, then park, and get the train. That is now 35-40 minutes 7-8 a.m to Stamford as it makes just about every single stop. Add in be at least 5 minutes ahead of it at the platform, and the commute will exceed 3 and a half hours per day.

Route 8 has less traffic than 91, 95 or 84, I would think, so you're more likely to see somebody racing by at 80-90 mph or more.

South of Waterbury, especially once you hit Seymour, Route 8 is very highly traveled. You’re far more likely see someone blow past you at 90 mph on I-91 - and even 84 - than Route 8.

Amtrak delay is normal. For Hartford train riders, do not bother with Amtrak, go with metro north + hartford line, that might avoid delays from long distance amtrak delays.
