His PhD program is about 5 years and he's been there for 4 years. I'm guessing his research is done and he's writing the thesis. The Jeopardy filming doesn't take that much time. IIRC, they film 10 shows over two days every other week. It's the travel back and forth that's a killer.

But the money he has earned sure beats the appx. $35K he gets as a stipend from Yale.

He's an OH native. He earned the money in CA thus he has to pay taxes there. It's known as the Jock Tax where high earners such as athletes and entertainers pay taxes wherever they perform or play.
