By law the state can’t finish its fiscal year with a surplus. Any surplus must be directed to the Rainy Day Fund, and when that is maxed out, the surplus must be deposited in the State’s pension funds. The State also has limits on how much the budget each year can be raised. This means lawmakers can’t just started spending money wrecklessly. That’s great. Maybe they can just cut taxes more which would benefit everyone and make the state more attractive.

A billion surplus is $275 per person based on population.

I don’t follow state budgets to know if that’s great or good relative to other states.

As a taxpayer tho, having it go to state pension fund, while important, is not satisfying

That is great since we just had a tax cut that reduced revenue and officials weren’t expecting it to be that high.

As a taxpayer you should be “satisfied”. The state has a long term plan to meet its pension obligations. Each year the state allocates a certain portion of its budget toward that pension obligation. Advanced payments like this saves the state money it must obligate toward pensions.

Past advanced payments have saved the state $440 million a year so far. That’s a significant amount and good fiscal policy. It’s certainly better than the state spending it on something frivolous. This also has allowed the four Bond Rating Agencies to upgrade our state’s bond ratings which saves us more money. All this could lead to more tax cuts. To me that’s very satisfying.

Indeed layoff off 1,000 workers now Indeed workers have find new job on Indeed ? Could be rise of AI expected to very advanced by 2030 in early stages now when 6G rollout up to 500 times faster than 5G which is good for AI.

The worldwide employment company Indeed announced plans on Monday to lay off 8% of its workforce. The company has headquarters in Stamford and in Austin, Texas. Officials declined to disclose how many employees were laid off from the Broad Street building in Stamford. One worker who says she was laid off said she never saw it coming.

“People who have worked here for five, seven, 10 years were impacted. People at all different levels were impacted,” said a worker who was laid off on Monday. “It's a real kind of shocker,” said another worker. Stamford State Sen. Ryan Fazio said the layoffs should be a wake-up call. "We have the second-highest tax burden in the state. We need to reduce that,” said Fazio. “It's a reminder to us in Connecticut that we need to do more to create a fertile ground creation and economic growth in this state." Cynthia James, of Stamford, doesn't work for Indeed but said she has used the company's services to find a job. "It's a good company, everybody uses Indeed,” said James. “It's pretty shocking that they're laying off 1,000 people."

Many of the top names in end-user driven tech way over hired PMs and even junior engineers to keep them away from competitors. I didn't have too many ears at Indeed but other companies it was hiring new CS grads by the handful and had them sit idle... sometimes the duration of their employment. Now that financing stock vesting has skyrocketed to the companies they are trying desperately to unwind their long term liabilities and over rely on the ones that are left, and this is happening in all major tech markets: SF/SJ, Austin (probably the hardest hit right now), NYC, Denver, and even FFC.

Smaller names that managed products geared towards business are seemingly holding their own for now.

But BPT, 5G's rollout has been an utter cluster and hasn't even had a full roll out yet (and likely never will at this point due to technical limitations). Most of the "vision work" for 6G is essentially coating Wi/Fi level bands from satellites which is easy to see why that's problematic from a engineering standpoint. Also, AI is mostly parlour tricks at this point, a buzzword that can mean anything or nothing with very little case study about effective that justifies the raw Wh power usage per inquiry (something like a gallon of water is used for every Meta AI visualization prompt). Don't let CEOs that messed up lie about their mess ups haha

"Unforseen business circumstances." It seems if you are relying on a bank to finance payroll, you should have thought they may cut you off at some point.
