My husband and I are moving to Connecticut area. He will have a job in Monroe, CT and me in Rocky Hill, CT.
Can anyone provide ideas of where we can stay midway, some place from where it will be convenient to drive. We plan to rent for now.

I have read about I-91 being pretty bad during rush hour around Rocky hill area. how true is it?

any help will be appreciated!

Waterbury, Prospect, Bethany, Beacon Falls

I've never commuted on I-91 so I can't comment there

Cheshire comes to mind although I'm not sure if there are rentals in that town. nice, safe place. Traffic sometimes gets backed up on 91 - i'm not sure i would call it pretty bad though. You'll find traffic in that area is more of a slowing effect than an actual stopped traffic pattern - at least in my experience. others here can probably provide more info since I don't commute 91 on a daily basis.

It is just that Cheshire is a bit closer to Rocky Hill, so that commute would be shorter and going to Monroe would be a bit longer.

Naugatuck is safe, has a lot of affordable rentals, and is possibly midway between the two?

Traffic on I-91 through Rocky Hill never really backs up. I am not sure where you read that. I-91 backs up going into Hartford from Route 3 in Wethersfield to the Charter Oak Bridge. There are also some modest backups in Meriden around I-691 and Route 15 but this is just a little slow down and does move.

As for where to live between these two, it kind of depnds where your husband's job is in Monroe. If the job is close to the Trumbull end of town, then you might consider being along the Route 15 corridor. Hamden would probably be a good place to look. It is a nice town with lots of rentals and a good selection of stores and restaurants. If it is near the Newtown border, it might be wiser to live along the I-84 corridor near Waterbury. I would lean toward Hamden. Hope this helps. Good luck, Jay
