We'd need movers, a two-bedroom apartment, and transportation for our own car. I need an approximate dollar amount, if that's possible. Please-- it's urgent!!!!!

First, welcome to CT.

We'd need more info to answer your questions. Southwest CT (suburban NYC) is among the most expensive areas in the country. The state gets more affordable as you go Northeast. Hartford and New Haven are great cities in central CT.

Questions -

1. What brings you to CT (job, school, etc)
2. City, suburb, shoreline or inland?
3. Budget?
4. Will you be commuting?

I did the move from CT to CA a few years ago. At the time I got quotes for budget/u-haul type quotes and they all came out to ~$2000 plus gas. I ended up deciding to sell off anything I didn't need and to UPS everything else to CA. Cost me $1000 for UPS and a couple plane tickets to move.

where are you looking for a 2 bedroom apt? That depends greatly on how much it will cost.

We moved two years ago from SoCal - 2 cars shipped was $6500, Household goods were about $6000 and that was with one of those deals where we packed it into the truck, and unpacked it on this end. Don't know about apt prices - but keep in mind - you'll have hefty deposits for the apt and utilities.

It depends on where you are going in CT.

We moved from CT to FL and back again, and I can say that you can save quite a bit of money by renting a UHaul/Penske truck and doing it yourself. If you have only one car, tow it behind you. You will have to pay for gas and hotel rooms along the way, but you'll save a lot on movers' costs, lost/broken items, plane tickets, and transporting your car across the country. Just a thought, if yo'ure up to it!
