I bought an Xbox One S for Christmas. It plays 4K DVDs, Games, and streams 4K Netflix.
My TV is a Samsung SUHD 8500 Series and the Receiver is an Onkyo TX-NR747. Both are supposed to be 4K compatible.
This set up has put me through the ringer. I feel like I have read blogs and watched YouTube videos for days. It took me awhile to set up the XBOX One S and finally get all green checks saying the 4K is good to go. I had to turn the Samsung SUHD setting on in Picture Preference and I had to move the HDMI to port 1 (DVI). Then on the Onkyo receiver I had to change the HDMI from Game to BR/DVD because it needed the HDMI 2.0.
Doing this finally gave me the green checks. But when I try to play a 4K DVD, Blu-Ray, or stream Netflix with the the XBOX One S, it won't work. The TV goes to a black screen that says check HDMI to make sure plugged in correctly or change source, the Receiver says Resolution Error, and the XBOX One S needs to be restarted.
I looked up the Resolution Error online and found that some people turn DEEP COLOR OFF to make it work. I tried this and it doesn't help. I'm able to play Blu-Ray which is good. But then I loose all the green checks in the XBOX One S settings and I'm still not able to play 4K DVD, 4K Games, and stream 4K Netflix.
Have you seen anything like this before??? I'm losing my mind trying to get this right. All of these systems are 4K ready, so why is this happening????
I am going to preface it by stating that I do not own ANY 4K devices. I've wasted too much time/money in the past playing with staying with technology in the past.
Try a basic set up. Disconnect everything. Connect the Xbox directly to TV HDMI3. With TV remote, change input to HDMI3. Play a disc. It should appear on TV.
btw- with all the other connections, did you change TV input to HDMI3 On the Samsung, HDMI2 should be arc for Onkyo receiver
