My household still has a traditional landline that we're not quite willing to part with for various reasons.
We'd like to dump our long distance coverage and were wondering how that works. If we tried to call out, would the call just not go through? But people could still call us long distance, correct? I thought about calling Verizon and asking them, but they always screw everything up. It's not worth the hassle.
You can keep your landline if you really feel you need one but why not make your long distance calls on a Magic Jack or using a Magic Jack application on your android or iphone, then you get unlimited nationwide and to Canada as well as U.S Territories and it only cost you $35 for the device and one year or service and an additional 5 years only cost another $99.75, so 6 years all in with no other bills for the 6 years for less than $150 as long as you have fast access or dsl in your home.
We have a land line with third party long distance (Pioneer). They charge 3-4c/minute, but we don't make that many long distance calls. There's only a charge for minutes used (plus the usual fees and taxes) with no other monthly charge. If you don't have a long distance provider on your land line, you likely can't make long distance calls on that line. That should not affect people calling you, but I don't know how AT&T handles that.
If you have copper hard line, not only must you pay to have a long distance plan but you also pay per minute per call.
Not necessarily. For years now, I've had plans with unlimited calling anywhere in USA. I believe most offer this that offer phone service. You just need to ask.
