I made the mistake of signing up for total AV a few months ago at what I thought would be $1.99 per month. But a month later they charged me $9.99. So I canceled and they said it would be canceled a month later.

But a month later it showed up again and I think it may have been supposed to be my last day of service. But then I open the app and it says her protection is on. I don't know if I accidentally started it up again this morning or what. How can I cancel this?

Uninstal the app and contact your credit card company to block any more payments.

What Akrausz said. Can also try to remove the payment info first if you know where that is - may be easier than having to dispute the CC charge.

Credit card company said that they could only stop payments by changing my credit card number. They recommended trying to contact the company.

So I canceled my subscription for the third time this morning. They say it will be canceled in a month but that's what they said last time too.

I can see big G for payment method. But when I tap on it it doesn't do anything.

I actually thought about removing the app a month ago but I was worried that if it charged me again I would not be able to access my account to try to dispute it. If I uninstall the app I worry that they may still keep charging me anyway.

Finally I found out how to Terminate Service. Hopefully that works, and it includes a refund as well.

Ah yes, the downside of the subscription model that no one wants to talk about.

Two things here I would never do:

- Pay a third-party for unneeded software when I could use free security software from Microsoft.
- Give a small company like Total AV control over charging my credit card every month. There are safer ways (where I keep total control) to make recurring payments like virtual credit cards and online bill paying.

A few things here I would never do:

  • Pay for a subscription disservice
  • Run proprietary software
  • Attempt to purchase security (security cannot be purchased)
  • Rely on a commercial entity to be a benevolent gatekeeper (For example "Avast fined selling user data")

DID YOU KNOW THAT your web browser unquestioningly runs any and all scripts delivered to it by every single web page that you visit? DID YOU ALSO KNOW that this represents one of the biggest attack vectors for malware to compromise end user systems? *INHALES* DID YOU ALSO KNOW THAT a huge proportion of web based malware is delivered via ad networks?

WELL, NOOOOW YOU KNOOOOW

In light of that, consider installing an adblocker on you web browser.
