About a half dozen local artists have created bicycle-themed sculptures along bike paths around town. Each sculpture is made with nothing but bicycle parts.

As a reminder, this is the original work of art that started it all. Called "Spokes" this is at the beginning/end of the 4-mile bike trail that connects downtown Cookeville and downtown Algood.

A new bike rack called "Banjo" was just erected next to Spokes:

Along the trail, another bike sculpture including a weather vane made from bike parts was erected:

The city's other bike trail is the 2-mile Tommy Thomas Memorial Bike Trail which connects Cane Creek Park to Cane Creek Elementary School. Tommy Thomas was a jazz drummer who retired to Cookeville and was famous for riding his bike all over town. This bike rack is called "Tommy Thomas" and has a drum behind the seat.

At Cane Creek Park there are two more sculptures made entire from bike parts:

All pics shared with permission.

Last year the Model T Ford Club of America held its National Tour in Cookeville. Some 140 vintage Model T's and their owners spent several days touring the region. Here are some videos of their trips which include beautiful shots of the local countryside as well as some of the neat little towns in the region.

Christmas time looks lovely! Do the decorations stay up a bit into January or are they taken down quickly (will we get to see them if we arrive mid-January)?

They do stay up a while but I think they take them down the first week of January, unfortunately. Here's a short video from last year of part of the light show that takes place every hour each night for the month or so after the official tree lighting ceremony.
