Just curious on the amount of snow Cookeville gets each year. Does it snow every winter at least one time? Average cold weather temp.? Thank you in advance

We just went through our second winter here, after moving from Florida. The first winter we had one snow of a couple of inches in January and a few dustings. Go to the Cookeville photo thread and there is a picture of Tennessee Tech after the January snow.

This last winter was a bust for snow; just a couple of light dustings.

Winter temps are variable, to say the least. Cold fronts come through and things can drop real quickly, then after a few days it warms up. I think that the first winter we hit around zero once and this last winter the low was only in the high single digits.

It's been quite "snowless" over the last few years, but back in the earlier part of the decade...we had decent snows. Winter of 2010 allowed for hockey on the pond. Seems like 2010, 2011 and 2012 were fairly snowy for the area.

yep.
I moved here in the mid 70's. Use to get good snows, sledding, snowmen, roads closed, getting stuck in the driveway. I remember a couple blizzards.
Now its pretty much hit or miss, mostly miss and the snows are insignificant and short.

Usually more than down the hill.
Back in the dark ages when I was attending TTU I had a professor (who was from Monterey) that would call me out and ask if it snowed on the mountain anytime I was a little late for class.

I can remember within the past 4 years two times where there was enough snow to make side roads unsafe to drive normal cars on. There were 4 ft high piles of snow at Tech where the snow had been scraped from the road. I am from Tellico Plains which receives a little more snow, especially if driving up the mountains. I thought Cookeville had just the right amount of snow when it did happen.

It does, but it melts quickly. The mean temperature in the coldest month (January) is 36F, which is the minimum considered suitable for hardy palm seedlings.
