The City of Cookeville is gearing up to bid another major part of the Rails with Trails project, which would outfit three locations -- two in the city -- with trail head facilities.

I hate to be negative but, I wonder if it is going to be 3, $52,000 dollar bathrooms.
Im am seriously having doubts the trails will ever be built. As far as the rails, to my knowledge, other than the maiden voyage, the only passenger trains have been from Monterey to the sand quarry. We cant even get excursions out of Cookeville to Nashville or Watertown. I was told this has something to do with personnel (volunteers) not wanting to or not being able to stay over in Cookeville.

Hi 2mares,

I hope you're wrong. It would be great to have those trails. I'm hoping that the trails will be completed by the time my wife and I retire in that area.

I'm generally a pretty optimistic person, so I'm still hoping that the trail will eventually be completed. It definitely has some major obstacles to overcome.

However, I see no reason why the trail connecting downtown Cookeville to Algood can't be built. It's already completed to the university. If just the Cookeville-Algood portion of the trail were built anytime soon, that would still be a good thing.

Default Cookeville, Monterey meet about Rail-Trail

Cookeville city officials are set to go to Monterey Monday to talk to them about the benefits of remaining in the Tennessee Central Heritage Rail-Trail Authority, four days after the Cookeville city council approved an amendment that, in part, would grant Monterey’s request to withdraw from the authority.
