There were a couple of locations for Tex-Mex grocery stores. Also, Three Brothers Grocery at Portairs shopping center, Globe grocery at Mission Shopping Center, Farmers Market on SPID, Shopper's World on SPID where the Trade Center indoor flea market is now. Handy Andy at Gulfway Shopping Center and Thrif-Tex near Baldwin and Morgan.

They use to serve the BEST hamburger steak ever. This would have been in the '60's.
I remember Bunk's being located on Leopard St. near the old Sear's building. My dad used to take our family out for dinner there on Friday's every few weeks along with other relatives and their families. They had the best chicken fried steak and I remember them being huge- I was a kid and could remember being able to finish it all.

Default Sambo's Restaurant

If I'm right I remember there used to be an old H.E.B on the north end of the Sunrise Mall? They said that it was attached to the Sunrise Mall. But my Mom says it was raised then they built the mall over it? I swear, the "Summit Church" building looks like an old H.E.B.

-there is also a building right as you are leaving Flour Bluff that is wooden, and very decrepit. What was the name of that place? I remember it as a Putt Putt golf-kind of place.

P.S This Fourm is now my guilty habit.
LOL
There is now a Peter Piper's Pizza where Sambo's used to be.

They also have a few commercials on retrojunk.com. Including one, that I understand was one the first movie tie-ins for a live action film and not a cartoon. It was just some small indendant film, who'd got of Film School a few year earlier .

Gone but not forgotten - Old Corpus Christi. Fantastic old memory lane reading for an old timer like me! I can still remember going to most of the drive-in theaters in Corpus in my 1971 Challenger RT. I was a student at Moody High School 70/72. How many of us really paid attention to the movie? Remember, all the distractions, smoking, drinking, girls, loud mufflers, cars with kids parked next to you, and of course, snack bar runs along with John breaks! Anyway, thanks to all that posted on this, sometimes I wish Could go back. I wouldn't change anything about Corpus or me growing up from 1953 to now!

Ship Ahoy Thousand Island Dressing

1 cup mayonnaise
1/4 cup Heinz chili sauce
2 Tbs. Heinz sweet pickle relish

Mix until well combined

This is from a reliable source, I used only 1 Tbs. sweet pickle relish for a more modern taste.
