It might be time to open up this discussion again: what are the most important decisions when planning your cruise? We all have different criteria and that is what makes this such an interesting topic.

1. Price - 46%
2. Itinerary - 44%
3. Cruiseline - 10%

As we get older, the percentages (importance) of itinerary are getting higher and higher. And, as we are quite happy booking an inside guarantee cabin, we aren't blowing the budget on a cabin, which gives us the leeway of spending more on airfares, wine, longer cruises, more frequent cruises, land vacations pre/post cruise, etc.

I have mentioned this before, but to repeat myself:

itinerary is number 1, well not really, I think price is: followed by itinerary, casual dress and we prefer port intensive, but we can go either way.

Stockholm is another great port to sail from. The first several hours of the cruise take you through the Stockholm archipelago, a collection of thousands of beautiful small islands.

Love those sea days, re-positioning, length of cruise, never less than 10 days and not to the Caribbean! At this stage of my cruising life (older), I want longer cruises, new and exciting ports!

After so many cruises (20+), I don't want to repeat ports! Being on a little island with thousands of people, not my idea of a good time! My last Caribbean cruise (2007), there were ships lined up everywhere we stopped. On my 1st cruise in 1982, we saw maybe one other ship at the islands, sometimes we were the only one.

our last cruise there were 7 ships in port in St Maarten, that is totally off the top for us. I will say, it is harder and harder to find new ports. Hubby and I were just talking about that this morning. We are trying to plan something for the fall season. Our problem is new ports without doing to Europe. We can't do that anymore...darn blood clots in his leg!! No more long flights, damn it!!! We are looking at New England and Canada. We have done it before but these are some ports we haven't done. The biggest problem, flying in the day before: into Boston and spending one night is 1/2 as expensive as the whole 7 day cruise or almost.

BTW, we took our first cruise in 1982 also I think and yes, we saw maybe, one other ship.

As I get older and now that I am a solo traveler, the ship is important because of the single supplement. The only line that has cabins specifically for solo travelers is NCL. Hopefully, the other mass market lines will follow soon as they design new ships. The only draw back to a solo cabin is that none have balconies which I love but I guess you can't have everything. So I will go with the money savings.
The itinerary is very important. My interest is long cruises of 10+ days with many sea days. The sea days are very relaxing without the running around so to speak of port days.
