BART = Bay Area Rapid Transit. Basically transit police. Shot by fellow officer.
They were serving a probation warrant. Wanted individual was not home. Officers forced entry, one shot another.
What a shame and tragic loss of life. Both officers were experienced.
A reporter asked if the wanted individual was already in custody at the time of the warrant service. Police spokesperson would not answer, rightfully so since they stated there would be no questions at that time.
No one was home, and they still managed to shoot and kill someone, scary to believe they were both experienced.
Lucky for the "wanted individual" that he/she wasn't home...could have, and probably would have been them that was shot.

There was no warrant since the suspect was already in jail. They were going to search his apt but found his front door ajar/unlocked so they went in with guns drawn. There were 5 cops in the apt, don't know why one was shot ... sounds like a scene from The Shield.
More likely poorly trained and did not follow basic gun safety rules.
RULE I:ALL GUNS ARE ALWAYS LOADED RULE II: NEVER LET THE MUZZLE COVER ANYTHING YOU ARE NOT WILLING TO DESTROY RULE III: KEEP YOUR FINGER OFF THE TRIGGER UNTIL YOUR SIGHTS ARE ON THE TARGET
RULE IV: BE SURE OF YOUR TARGET
Especially rule #3
Wonder how often BART cops are required to practice and demonstrate proficiency with their firearm.
After Oscar Grant I personally think no Bart officers should have firearms!
