This is a perfect example of parental input. Schools and teachers cannot be held responsible for values instilled by parents. They can only try. The best teacher in a bad school may be better than the best in a great school and not get credit for their efforts because of this!
The blacker the district the more messed up it is. There is a reason those schools resemble prisons; it's their vocational training.
One must consider the demographics of DC. If there was mass exodus of poor blacks, there wouldn't be many children left in DCPS. That's according to a friend of my wife, who teaches in DC.
381,000 dollars to educate each student from grades k-12? The public school system is nothing more than a "make work employment program" run by leeches suckling off the teat of taxpayers. I say give every kid a new laptop every four years (3,200), give them an online lesson plan which would cost at most 1000/yr (13,000) and let them learn at home. If the parents can't/won't supervise them then let the parents pay for daycare out of their own pockets. We could educate the students that want to learn for under 17,000 vs the 381,000 now spent.
So the most expensive school district in the USA is also the worst performing. Wow, that's a serious waste of taxpayer money...probably over half is graft stolen for a few. How do they get that much anyhow?
Just goes with what I've been saying that having parents that care and demand the schools educate their kids is far more critical than how much money they spend...I've experienced good and horrible schools in my time in school and also my kids who got a great education at $6K per student.
