Be careful out there people! Keep your hateful and racist thoughts offline!

Facebook post about Ferguson leads to firing

HOUSTON -- As racial tensions continue to flare up in Ferguson,
back home in Houston one woman's Facebook post about the
controversy landed her in the unemployment line.

She wrote, "The police need to just start mowing them down
with machine guns, purge them," on her personal Facebook page.

"Very racist," said one man, who didn't want to be identified. "I
was highly offended." This man saw the woman's post online, and
he looked into it further. He learned the woman, KHOU is choosing
not to name her, worked at Memorial Hermann Southeast.

Anyone who does not understand that anything they post on FB is "out there" unless they take steps to make it private (and frankly I wouldn't necessarily be sure THAT wouldn't become public either) is pretty naive, and probably shouldn't be on FB.

She probably figured as long as it wasn't directed at an individual, it was alright.

Wow! Why does this keep happening? People read these stories, think "stupid person!" then go and do it on their own facebook or twitter accounts. I wonder how these get discovered. Does someone share it? or is one of their friends turning them in? Twitter is open to all, but Facebook isn't.

Facebook, Twitter -- these are pretty obvious.

But what about... City-Data Forums?

(Not that I would ever say or think anything like what was said in this story.)

Can what I say here be used against me by my employer? My screen name gives me just a facade of privacy or safety. It's a pretty weak anonymity measure.

What do you think?

Guess "one man" thinks it's more honorable to be a vigilante and harm the livelihood of a stranger than it is to be racist?
