I have a little request ... not meant to be critical, just trying to keep forum navigation easier ...

We've got a few threads going right now with subject lines that don't identify the topic at all. It makes it difficult to easily identify the threads that I'm interested in following. Please avoid thread titles like

"You've got to be kidding me ..."
"This just makes me sick"
"America, what's wrong???"

and instead identify what you're posting about ... e.g.:

"5 y/o invoiced for missing birthday party"
"Woman set baby on fire"
"Mall shooting in central FL"

Thanks!

Why not just contact the moderator?

Actually, it's common courtesy, not to mention useful to all.

Giving a thread a topical header is as basic and necessary as posting it in the correct forum. Do you know why we have separate forums? So that people who are uninterested in, say, politics, can simply avoid the entire Politics forum. And that's the same reason each thread has a header - so we can read the header and preview the topic, thereby decided whether or not we want to view it at all. After all, there are thousands upon thousands of threads. Do you click on all, or even most threads? Probably not. Nor do I.

But when threads are posted that have header descriptions that give no idea at all what is in the thread, it is a detriment to this website.

On a side note, when users police themselves it is better than having to have moderators do so.

The opening post of this thread is entirely appropriate, reasonable, helpful, and - unlike your response - polite.

For crying out loud. It was a simple request. It's not a "big deal" but rather something that stood out to me because there are a few vaguely named threads currently floating around out there.

Yes, I could contact the mods, but if I were inadvertently doing something that caused confusion, I'd want someone to mention it so that I could be aware and clarify the next time. Plus, why create work for the mods if we could all just have topical thread titles in the first place?

Seems to me there's only one person making a "big deal" out of this.

I agree with the OP. People use very ambiguous thread titles like that, so that you'll look at it and wonder "Oh? What does he mean? I'd better click on this thread so I can find out, it sounds interesting!" and do just that. It's like a fishing line, so they can reel you in - hook, line and sinker.

It's a last ditch effort to get you to read their threads, and sadly, it works very well.

I read fast, and tend to miss titles this steeped in vagueness.

It's hard to believe someone would object to writing with clarity and concision. This is when you want to reach for the minus points.

Agreed.
As this is the current events forum, some reference to the specific event in the thread title doesn't seem like a lot to ask.

I thought a descriptive title was part of the TOS.
