Video: 'Hacktivist' group Anonymous says it will avenge Charlie Hebdo attacks by shutting down jihadist websites - Telegraph

Quote:
Hacker group Anonymous have released a video and a statement via Twitter condemning the attacks on Charlie Hebdo, in which 12 people, including eight journalists, were murdered.

In the clip, a figure wearing the group's symbolic Guy Fawkes mask is seated in front of a desk with the hashtag #OpCharlieHebdo - which stands for Operation Charlie Hebdo - featured on screen.
The figure, whose voice is obscured says: "We are declaring war against you, the terrorists."

Further proof that they only act when it will give them good PR. They could have been going after these sites for years. If their abilities are what they make us believe they are, certainly they could have prevented a lot of crap from happening.

Best of luck to them. But yeah, it begs the question that if they've had the capability to do it, why wait until now?

Yeah 9/11 and beheadings weren't enough for them ...?

No, apparently they had to wait until there was an attack on "freedom of expression." Apparently that's more important to them than, um ... life.

Avenge an attack on freedom of expression by interrupting a hate group's freedom of expression. Whatever, Anonymous. They're about as relevant as a book about the Fatty Arbuckle trial.

It's hardly "avenging" murder to DDOS attack a few websites. Why don't they just write "murder is bad" on posters and parade down the street wearing their Guy Fawkes masks? Just as useful. And just as much media time, too.

Well, it's at least something as compared to posting Je Sui Charlie on Facebook.

I get the feeling that Anonymous is really just the powers-that-be operating under a different guise, to give the illusion of being a "hacktivist" organization that shuts down websites for the benefit of mankind.

I am curious, will a vigilante group actually have the capability? Will the NSA and other agencies try to stop them, assuming they are reading some of the Jihadists traffic.

Yep, considering these groups use the Internet to spread their vile message and recruit....I would have thought this would be welcomed.
