DOJ official, 2 others accused of operating bizarre 'Masonic

Quote:
On April 29, detectives with multiple agencies served warrants at two locations in Santa Clarita where they arrested Henry, Hayes and Kiel while recovering badges, identification cards, weapons, uniforms, police-type vehicles and other law enforcement equipment.
Didn't they know that now is not the time to be a cop?

An official with the state Department of Justice and two others have
been arrested and charged with trying to start a bogus police force in Southern
California that invoked bizarre secret-society-type imagery.

Brandon Kiel, 36, who according to the LA Times worked as the deputy
director of community affairs for state Atty. Gen. Kamala D. Harris, was
arrested Thursday and charged with crimes including impersonating a peace
officer. The attorney general’s office did not immediately return phone calls or
e-mails Wednesday.

“The Masonic Fraternal Organization is the oldest and most respected
organization in the 'World,’” the statement reads in part. “The first Police
Department was created by the "Knights Templar's" back in 1100 B.C. When asked
what is the difference between The Masonic Fraternal Police Department and other
Police Departments the answer is simple for us. We were here first!”

Authorities were tipped off to the wanna-be cops in January when the group
sent out letters to the chiefs of law enforcement agencies around Southern
California, which read in part, “David Henry had been elected chief of the
MFPD,” Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department officials said.
These are fools, trying to start their own PD.

They are not police.

Bizarre story. They actually contacted other law enforcement agencies announcing themselves. It doesn't even look like any of them were actually Masons.

The article says they actually had uniforms, weapons, and vehicles. Yet another reason to get a CCW.

That's some funny sheet. Are you sure this isn't a viral campaign to promote Super Troopers 2?

Actually, after reading the article, this "organization" reminds me of the Sovereign Citizens people.

Top hats and gold cuffs: the curious case of California's fake masonic police force

A minister, an aide to the attorney general of California and a purported Emmy winner could face up to a year in county jail, after they were arrested in late April for posing as members of a fictional police department supposedly tied to the Knights Templar.

Reverend Tonette Hayes, 56, Brandon Kiel, 36, and 46-year-old David Henry, Kiel’s father-in-law, claimed to be members of the Masonic Fraternal Police Department (MFPD). On its website, the group says it has existed for more than 3,000 years and has legal jurisdiction in 33 states and Mexico.
Authorities disagree.
