Yeah, I'd say he is lucky. First he almost rear-ended that truck, then he came pretty close to hitting that first utility pole, and then he almost came back on the road going the wrong direction. Any of that could have been fatal.
I'm pretty sure that was a medical condition. Unfortunately I have dozed off a few times when driving. The rumple strips were more then enough to wake me up instantly. I can't imagine anyone crashing through a fence, three times without waking up.
The worst accident I was ever in was when my brand-new car (I hadn't even made a payment yet) was struck head-on by a driver who was coming off a night shift as I was driving to work. I wasn't killed because we were both on the long driveway outside our office complex, so we weren't traveling at a high rate of speed.
Didn't slow down, like it was on cruise control. If you're tired, turn off the cruise control. The car can slow down since a sleeping driver likely isn't pressing down on the accelerator. Also, having to pay attention to speed can help you stay awake. I noticed there was no radio on, no windows open. Those things help, too.
Have you ever driven on the highway and realize you don't have any memory of driving from, let's say, Exit 5 to Exit 6. Kinda scary when you think about. Spaced out, auto pilot.
I am an accident lawyer. I have seen just about every kind of accident there is at this point.
I'll describe one for you. Jones is driving down a busy road connects two small cities. Smith is coming the opposite direction. Smith doesn't know it, but is bleeding internally. Smith loses consciousness and crosses the centerline of the road and drives head on into Jones.
Both Jones and Smith suffer injuries in the accident and Jones hires me to represent him with his insurance claim.
Later, I took Smith's deposition. I learned that the accident probably saved Smith's life. He had no idea he was bleeding internally, but when he was taken to the hospital this problem was discovered. Smith was grateful for what happened, but still understood the obligation of his insurance company to compensate Jones for his injuries.
One of the few accidents where someone got hurt and still came out the winner.
I bet that farmer wasn't happy about his fence getting torn up.
No but knowing the guy didnt do it ON PURPOSE probably made him less mad.....
Lucky guy!!
