The real problem is that too many people have handicapped stickers, park there and are as active as I am. Leave them for the real people who need them.

And then we also have the proliferation of "Mommies Only" and "Pregnant Only" unlegislated areas. Those I park in, to be politically correct. My daughter jogged 4 miles two days before giving birth.... no special places needed for mom's to be... sorry.
No, the real problem is that everyone assumes they can judge others. My mother, who looks very young for 68, suffers from Charcot Marie Tooth. It is neurological disease, causing her leg to turn inward involuntarily and impacting her ability to lift her foot with each step. She wears a metal brace, but it is easily covered by long pants. There have been several times someone like you has made a comment about her parking in handicap spots. Of course, she just lifts her pant slightly and shows her brace, and they slink off in shame. My cousin was a firefighter, and he contracted a mold infection requiring the removal of the right lower lobe of his lung. He is 38 and gets short of breath easily attempting to walk any distance outside. He is also frequently judged by the handicap police because he appears young and healthy.

The next time you are passing judgment remember that making ASSumptions rarely turns out well!

My philosophy is "I take care of myself first, so that I can then take care of others."

First, I am quite capable of discerning those who will be helped by my generosity from those who would only be enabled. Government is unable, and in some instances unwilling, to make that discernment.

Second, every penny the government confiscates from me is less that I can use to help those who truly need a hand up instead of a handout. If I give a $10 to a homeless man, he has $10 that he can use as his conscience dictates. If $10 is taken from me and laundered through the government, the govt will not be able to give the entire $10 to whomever it decides should receive the money.

In short, government is less able to do good than are individuals - and when government does good, it is unable to do as much as individuals can.

And as for "that's not a way to run a country," that phrase is most relevant to the way this country is currently being run: politicians are spending more than is collected in tax revenue.

I fundamentally disagree with virtually every post you make, and there is no sense to wasting any more time discussing it with you.

Disagree all you want, but can you cite any facts that counter my arguments?

What is it you don't understand about: "there is no sense to wasting any more time discussing it with you"?

I'll take that as a "no."
