Of course they 'went on with' the fireworks show! One could not possibly allow the indolent rich to experience the ennui of a cancelled show, and contemplate spending next new years eve somewhere else.
How can fire spread so quickly? These are modern structures. Very suspicious.

Rumor has it that many of the Dubai buildings are "Castles in the Sand" that were rapidly built during the boom years. As such, a lot of short cuts were said to be taken regarding over all construction quality. I would not be surprised if that extends to sprinkler systems, fire doors, fire resistant materials etc.
It's amazing. Not one word what happened to the fire or to the hotel. Nobody is covering it anymore.
