Hate crime- but a very low level form of hate crime. Maybe, "hate harassment". The bacon wrapper probably does not realize that while observant moslems don't eat pork, they are permitted to handle it with out clean room precautions, nor do they believe that the presence of pork give "cooties" to the moslems or the mosque. That aside, the harassment was a deliberate waste of food and thus very bad stewardship.
The bad bacon stunt aside, I hope the FBI is involved to the same extent they would be if somebody was harassing a church in a similar way. Come to think of it, some protestants have been passing out anti Catholic leaflets at Catholic churches in Las Vegas. Is the FBI involved there as well (tracking down the perpertrators, interviewing them as to their intent)? Or are the local police handling it as cases of trespassing? My guess is that the local police is handling the matter. They should also handle the mosque matter as well. Neither warrants federal involvement.
Not all Muslims avoid eating or are offended by bacon. lol
True, but those attending a mosque are more likely to be abstaining from eating pork.
Cryptic, I like your terminology of "hate harassment" which seems more on point than hate crime. This isn't exactly on the same level of a swastika on the door of a Jewish temple.
The incidents of a severed pig's head found in a mosque in Philadelphia and a molotov cocktail going off in a mosque in CA, I would put into the hate crime category. Perhaps the FBI is treating this more seriously so it doesn't escalate into something more.
American Muslims have a right to worship without being targeted like this.
It's not a matter of opinion - it's a hate crime because it meets the definition of a hate crime.
First of all, it's a criminal act, albeit it a very minor one. It's trespass with some sort of minor vandalism charge included. Second, it's religiously motivated, with the targets of the criminal act being singled out for their religion. That's what a hate crime is.
But as I said, it's pretty minor. And its nature suggests that it's the work of a cowardly, emotionally-stunted loser that is merely unpleasant to be around and nothing more. Probably the kind of moron who hates Sikhs because he's too stupid to comprehend that 'turban' does not necessarily equal 'muslim'. And since the crime in question is likely a misdemeanor and not a felony, even if he's caught and convicted he'll still be able to cast his vote for Donald Trump.
It's a PRANK, nothing more. Muslims need to stop looking for something to be outraged over.
