According to some comments after the article, other sources have stated the mom left the kids unsupervised with the dogs while she went to check out horses on the property. Mom has some screws loose to leave children unattended with 100+ lb. dogs. Complete moron.
FWIW, "Rush" Colorado isn't even a town, it is just the Post Office name for an extremely rural area that is populated mostly by about 200 people living in Single wide mobile homes. It is police no man's land at the edge of El Paso and Lincoln counties. The only people that live there are crazy and/or are trying to evade law enforcement. Major businesses are cattle ranching, meth production, welfare check depositing, and dog breading.
It sounds like a "puppy mill area". Sad about the kids, but poor judgement on the part of the ignorant mother, and the puppy mill breeder - who should get a real job.
I'm surprised it even made the news considering the dogs weren't pit bulls....
yup.
A couple more media reports on great Danes and everyone will realize that they are inherently evil, aggressive, monsters and should all be put down.
The Dane apologists will tell you it wasn't the dogs fault. That woman should not have left her 5 small children alone with multiple dogs in a breeding facility.
I mean really with all the toy breeds out there to choose from why does anyone need such a big dangerous dog.
Still, I'm shocked the lady is dragging five kids around with her anywhere. Seems she can't afford child care but that doesn't stop her from breeding. Sorry not sorry, when I hear she has five kids I think "trashy breeder". I don't care if people who can afford children have as many as you like, but if you CAN'T afford them and drag five squallers around with you all the time, I'm gonna judge.
I'm sorry but "when you can't afford them" is exactly the time to have them in when you live in a redistributionist economy that bases the amount of benefits largely on how many dependents a person has. You get more of what you subsidize. These kids should have never been allowed around these dogs however. Both the mother and the owner of the breeding facility should have seen to that.

Please do not blame the dogs.
Get a real job? How about going to jail for animal abuse first, then he would have time to think about a career change.
It is unfortunate, but puppy mills are still perfectly legal.... some of the most wretched and disgusting and inhumane mills are AKC Registered.... tells you a WHOLE lot about THAT organization, doesn't it??
