In at least half a dozen malls across the US yesterday, the day after Christmas, there were fights, some with reported gun shots fired (some of this was later found not to be true---one was firecrackers being thrown---still dangerous). At first I was horrified that Black Friday behavior continues now onto the day after Christmas (shouldn't some of the good feelings of Christmas/religious aspects carry over for at least another 24 hours?). I couldn't understand why people still needed to avail themselves of any special sales and promotions after Christmas---didn't they get enough stuff?

So it's with mixed feelings that I learned that every single incident was due to teens! At least it's not adults. And at least it's not over material things. But scary that teenagers can create so much havoc and that they have nothing better to do. Allegedly social media enabled some of this---in one city, the upcoming fight was posted and hundreds of teens went to partake or at least watch.

I don't know what the solution is. One mall will restrict teens from coming on their own---they need to be accompanied by people over 21 (as if three years will make such a difference in their behavior!). Some malls already have teen curfews for Saturday nights, but this stuff occurred Monday morning!

Liberals are blaming Trump's election for this. Conservatives are blaming Obama. I just want to place the blame on the kids who think violence is the answer to the boredom they seem to be facing and not being able to cope with. What do y'all think?

Reports of mall disturbances light up social media

Teens are a product of their environment....So yes, in a way adults are to blame. Second, this is exactly why I do ALL my shopping on line. FYI I did all my Christmas shopping in my sweats on line in less time it took to finish a beer.

1/2 a dozen malls across the entire USA is now an "epidemic"? 6 malls? Thanks for the laugh of the day. Breaking news everyone 6 malls in the entire USA had a fight in them. You better never go to a mall. Sit at home and buy things on line, it is safer. Yep, 6 whole malls!!!! Again BREAKING NEWS!!!

Will people ever get tired of how silly the Internet/media/propaganda machine has become? Geez!

I wouldn't call it an epidemic but there were a lot more than 6 malls. Many were closed early due to the fighting. There were more mills involved than are listed in these stories. CNN is reporting a dozen.

Does anyone really even need to guess at what the "problem" is anymore? Same problems, the usual suspects and it's "news" as hands are thrown up again in feigned amazement.

There are approximately 1050 enclosed malls in the US to put things in perspective. 12 malls represents about 1.1% had a fight in them. We have had fights in Pittsburgh at a mall that has quite a few city kids go there. They beefed up security and things have settled down. It sucks it happens, but I hardly call 1.1% of malls an epidemic to be honest.

I think epidemic probably wasn't the right word. But for it to happen in that many malls on the same day ... well it's certainly more than a coincidence.

That number of malls is alarming to have violence in. Its sad in that an already turbulent country we cannot even catch a break post Christmas.

Its like there is a complete aversion to peace. Controversy and conflict all around with hardly a break this whole year.

Adults do the same thing. They fight over a popular toy at the store. It's human emotion. Doesn't mean adults control themselves better. It's a dog-eat-dog world and humans compete against each other, and they REALLY WANT that thing they're fighting over.

How is normal human behavior political?
