I wonder how long she had been living like this? Pretty crazy she survived for however long.

As a side note, got to love the awesome journalism. The title says 8 year old then the article says the girl is believed to be around 10 but no one knows.

Wow, what a story! Maybe this will take my mind off the "python swallows man" tale that has been giving me nightmares!

I hope she can write her memoirs someday....that'd be interesting reading....

OMG, me too! That snake story was really something. I couldn't bring myself to click for the pictures. I knew I wouldn't be able to un-see that if I did.

I don't think they even know nor care how big shock this is to both, to a girl and her monkey family.

When reached for a comment, the girl reportedly just flung her poo at the reporter and then swung away...

It would have been very interesting to just sit back and observe for a while before just grabbing her. Apparently she wasn't in any immediate danger (not from the monkeys anyway). This is hardly a Tarzan or Mowgli type thing. In both those stories (especially Tarzan) the characters life in the jungle with the creatures they lived with was hard, but made them basically super human. The "apes" in Tarzan were fictional creatures. Not gorillas as many think. They were sort of a ...missing link, type creature. With language and societal structure. There is no such "ape" as the Mangani.

Physically, I am curious how living like this has effected this girl. She's got to be pretty strong, especially for her age, certainly tougher than most. I'd say her immune system is high functioning. Yes, her removal had to have thrown a spanner in her mental works, the monkeys? Probably not so much. Monkey troupes lose members all the time to predators, ( including humans) and life goes on. If she can indeed ever tell her story about this, it's bound to be quite fascinating.

I also found it fascinating and almost wish they could have continued to observe her from afar a little while longer and only step in if she seemed to be in danger. It could have been a great experiment.

I wonder how she wound up there? Abandoned because she was a girl? The monkeys stole her?
