Problems can happen with all airlines, that said I will NOT fly any budget airline, I don't care how cheap the fare is. My thoughts is budget cheapo airlines are cutting costs somewhere to keep offering cheap fares, my opinion, the cuts are usually in the maintenance.
Going to Europe this summer, yes I bit the bullet and paid the fare, people telling me and sending links for WOW air, no thanks.

I don't think "cheap" means they're any less safe! SW has only had a few (I think 3 and one was weather related) problems in the last 10 years. I'd rather fly SW than United or American! This was a freak accident and it will not derail me from using them in the future.

Something else I found interesting from the Daily Mail article
Why is it necessary to mention the pilot's gender? Would they have done that if it were a male pilot? Is it somehow more impressive because it's a woman?
I wouldn't feel comfortable with a woman flying..sheesh!
I am a man and it does bother me. Who cares about gender; what matters is whether the person is capable of doing their job or not (and in this case, she certainly was). Replace the word "female" with "black" or "white" and then see how bizarre it sounds.
Unlikely, this is a Boeing defect. Another plane had a fan blade problem and Southwest as a precaution inspected the engine carefully 2 days ago and cleared it. So it's an unknown defect which is very problematic
I don't like to jump the gun. I can wait for the results of the investigation. However, the preliminary examination seems to suggest "metal fatigue". Sounds more like a maintenance issue to me.
I dunno what the poster is getting at but, despite pseudo-scientific theories from sociology professors that men (as a population) and women (as a population) are the same, that is impossible on account of a million or more years of sexual dimorphism through genetics and genetic expression. Race, however, is largely a construct - genetic differences are pretty much minimal and barely even detectable unless you have small homogenous groups in the comparison. Sexes are different, races not so much, even if you can define the boundaries of the "race"
I just want a competent pilot - who come in all genders and races of course.

I understand how you feel, however, they ALL cut costs on maintenance if they can. I have my plane maintained by a mechanic (A&P/IA) that used to work for a large, non budget airline. I asked him about their maintenance procedures, and philosophy. His answer is always "You don't want to know". I guess it is like the kitchen in your favorite restaurant.
